Chachimbiro

The thermal springs at Chachimbiro are of volcanic origin. The springs appeared as the result of an earthquake in August 1868 and their medicinal qualities have been known and used by the local inhabitants since that date. The thermal springs reach temperatures of 30c to 50c and their chemical composition and characteristics place them among the best in Ecuador.

The water at Chachimbiro contains high levels of iron chloride and sulphide, copper, fluoride, bromide and iodine among others. These elements can act as a digestive regulator and purgative as well as stimulate the cardiovascular, diuretic and nervous systems.
